Operation Market Garden is one of the most important military events in the history of the Netherlands. In September 1944 the Allied forces used gliders to land troops and equipment at a location that today is right beside the Wings of Liberation Museum. Follow in the footsteps of the 101st Airborne Division and relive the story that led to the liberation of the southern Netherlands. “Here you are reminded of a time that we should never forget,” one visitor said.

“Impressive place packed with history”
The museum is part of a sprawling complex, in the middle of the forest. In different halls you can learn about this awe-inspiring operation and see unique aircraft, tracked vehicles, tanks, gliders, army jeeps, Zündapp engines, anti-aircraft guns, cannons and ammunition that were actually used at the end of WWII. On the large terrace of Brasserie ’t Boshuys, you can let it all sink in while enjoying a tasty lunch, coffee and cake or delicious dinner. And especially for children, there’s a playground with a fantastic play castle – with drawbridge! – and various other fun equipment.

Learn to fly!
Thanks to the many activities, it’s possible to plan your entire visit before you arrive. If you contact the museum beforehand, it’s even possible to book a flight in an historical army aircraft. Don’t forget to visit the Paulushoeve either, where the gliders landed, and the many other memorial monuments around the museum. And in the flight simulator room, you can step into the cockpit of one of the historical aircraft and actually learn to fly!

Accessibility
Conveniently located to the north of Eindhoven, between the A2 and A50 motorways and with a bus stop outside the door, the museum is very easy to access. And it is wheelchair friendly: the entire collection can be accessed and viewed by wheelchair users without problem. There are also separate guidebooks in Dutch, French and English.
Oh, yes, and one last tip: tickets can be bought cheaper online than in the museum itself!
