The violin concerto by Brahms is one of the most significant works in the violin repertoire. From a technical standpoint, the concerto is highly demanding, featuring extensive use of polyphony, broken chords, rapid passages, and rhythmic variation. The Symphony in D minor is the most well-known orchestral work and the only symphony written by the 19th-century composer César Franck. The symphony employs a cyclic form, with significant themes recurring in all three movements. Particularly beautiful is the melodic line at the beginning of the slow movement, featuring harp, English horn, and mysteriously played muted strings.

Dutch violinist Lisa Jacobs is one of the leading musicians of her generation, acclaimed for her passionate, virtuosic playing, surprising programmes, and stage presence combined with her deeply expressive musicality. At the age of 17, she made a successful debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under the direction of Riccardo Chailly and has since performed multiple times in major concert halls both nationally and internationally.

About the orchestra

Symphony Orchestra Eindhoven has carved out its own unique place in the musical landscape of Eindhoven over the past decades. Most members of the orchestra are (advanced) amateurs, with some having received professional music education. The musicians come from the broader region of Eindhoven and beyond. The orchestra also regularly collaborates on projects with music ensembles and choirs from the region. Since 2017, British conductor Quentin Clare has been the orchestra's permanent maestro.
